Corso di inglese: il verbo modale "should"

Il verbo modale should viene usato soprattutto per dare e chiedere consigli.

La forma affermativa si costruisce con il soggetto, seguito dal verbo modale e infine dal verbo principale: I/you should go, he/she/it should go, we/you/they should go (dovrei andare, dovresti andare, dovrebbe andare, dovremmo andare, dovreste andare, dovrebbero andare).

La forma negativa si ottiene con la negazione "not" dopo il verbo should (anche in contrazione shouldn't): I/you shouldn't go, he/she/it shouldn't go, we/you/they shouldn't go (non dovrei andare, non dovreste andare, non dovrebbe andare, non dovremmo andare, non dovreste andare, non dovrebbero andare).

La forma interrogativa si ottiene con l'anticipazione del verbo modale prima del soggetto: Should I/you go? Should he/she/it go? should we/you/they go? (dovrei andare? dovresti andare? dovrebbe andare? dovremmo andare? dovreste andare? dovrebbero andare?).

Alcuni esempi: You should stop smoking (dovresti smettere di fumare); Should I call her now? (dovrei chiamarla adesso?).
